Skilled Nursing Facility
For more than 35 years, the Skilled Nursing Facility at Gibson General Hospital has been a place for hope and healing for residents of Gibson County. We create a person-centered culture - a community where each patient develops their own individuality and capacity for care.
Our 45-bed unit located on the hospital's fifth floor provides round-the-clock nursing care and convenient availability of the full resources of Gibson General Hospital. We also provide specialized care to those persons needing rehabilitative nursing care and related medical and restorative services - some have chosen to make it their home.
We are a member of the Indiana Health Care Association and Indiana Association of Homes & Services for the Aging.
We know that family support is vital to your healing, so we encourage family members to visit frequently. You may have visitors at any time, just as you would in your home. Children are always welcomed when supervised by an adult visitor.
Our Skilled Nursing Facility provides specialized care to those persons needing rehabilitative nursing care and related medical and restorative services, in addition to providing long-term residential care.
We accommodate Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance and private pay. We admit from our hospital, other hospitals and nursing facilities and from your home.
We will be happy to have you and your family members tour our unit at your convenience. Please call social services at 812-385-9213 or 812-385-9288 for more information.
Any therapies prescribed by your physician are provided, including physical, respiratory, occupational speech therapy. Dentistry, podiatry, pharmaceutical consultation and diagnostic services are available as needed. Emergency room services are conveniently located on-site.
All of our nurses are required to stay current with the latest medical techniques through additional in-service education. Intermediate nursing care is also available and many of our residents make their home with us. We accommodate Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance and private pay.

Shortly before or after admission, you will be asked for information which we compile into a social history, including previous occupations, personal background, hobbies, attitudes, etc. This social history helps our staff know more about you in order to provide better, more personalized care. Our social worker is familiar with services of various private and public social health and welfare agencies in the community and can help you get services you may need. You will be invited to attend care conferences to better help us meet your goals.
Our Food Services Department provides three excellent well-balanced meals daily. Upon your admission, a food service representative will visit you to discuss your meals and eating habits in order to meet your personal needs. All who are able are encouraged to eat in the dining room. Meals are served at approximately 7:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Family and friends who visit you are invited to eat in the hospital cafeteria to join you with a guest tray at a reasonable charge. Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
Weekend and evening meals for family and friends are available from the dietary department, but must be ordered in advance. Please let your nurse know if you desire to order an evening or weekend meal.
We provide personal laundry service for machine washable items, or you may do your own laundry if you prefer.
You may bring a portable television, which will connect with our cable service free of charge.
You may have a phone in your room, if you wish, and will be charged a minimal monthly fee.
