Scholarship established in honor of former hospital employee

Gibson General Hospital, its employees and Gibson General Health Foundation have established a scholarship fund in honor of Diane M. Cowling, a 26-year hospital employee who passed away in an automobile accident on Oct. 11.

Cowling was a dedicated member of the hospital's radiology department, where she was the lead radiology technologist and mammography technician.

"The scholarship fund honors Diane and her devotion to her life's work," said Deann Hunt, human resources director at Gibson General Hospital.

The annual $500 scholarship will benefit second year radiologic technology students, who are single mothers, from Olney Central College, Good Samaritan Hospital and University of Southern Indiana radiology programs.

"Diane spent most of her life as single mother, and was able to get her degree and certification while raising her children," said Hunt. "We felt that it was appropriate to create a scholarship for single mothers so they can complete their education and begin a career that will give back to the community, as Diane did her entire life."
Applications for the scholarship will be available at each of the schools next spring.

Donations to the fund can be made payable to the Diane M. Cowling Scholarship Fund, and can be accepted at Gibson General Hospital's Human Resources Department or German American Bank.
